Seasonal Flying at Bidford
Ridge and Wave at Denbigh with Bidford aircraft
It is not only gliders that fly when the weather permits during the Winter, but some of our power pilots like to keep their beloved “flying machines” in tip top order.
In addition we continue to train our members and provide “currency” check flights for senior pilots in line with BGA guidelines, as well as our instructor and introductory flight pilots.
While flying continues throughout the winter at Bidford, we also give our members the chance to experience ridge and wave flying by basing one of our two-seater gliders at Lleweni Park in North Wales (Denbigh) for three months.
The location of the Denbigh flying club means it can offer ridge flying over the the Snowdonia mountains and the Clwydian range on days when wave is not happening.
Denbigh also gets spectacular mountain wave in the prevailing Westerly winds. The current record height stands at 25,000 feet. At that height you need oxygen and warm clothing. With experienced ridge and wave instructors, it is an opportunity to experience something quite unique.
